Crónica de REQ 2014 / REQ 2014 Review

Las Jornadas Rol en Quart (REQ) 2014 se celebraron el pasado fin de semana en la localidad valenciana de Quart de Poblet. Así dicho, parece que hay que irse muy lejos, pero no, si estás pensando venir en una futura edición, que sepas que están a cinco minutos de Valencia, muy bien comunicada por metro.

Lo primero de todo que hay que destacar de las REQ y empecemos por lo malo que es: el calor. Lamentablemente es así. Es el mes de julio, es Valencia y es un polideportivo. Esa combinación es igual a mucho calor. Por ejemplo, el sábado, no empezó a refrescar hasta pasadas las 22 horas. Pasa lo de muchas jornadas, hay locales más adecuados reservados para esas fechas. Porque no sería descabellado que las JESTA (que también se celebran en Quart de Poblet, en noviembre) se celebrasen en este polideportivo y las REQ en el centro social donde se celebran las JESTA. Pero, ya sabéis, prioridades y esas cosas (a lo mejor, habría que revisarlas porque asiste mucha gente). Aunque también se lanzó la idea, al último día, de poder utilizar sistemas de aire acondicionado portátiles para el año que viene. ¡Ojalá!

Pero vamos con más cosas... Las REQ como su propio nombre indica son jornadas dedicadas al mundo de los juegos de rol. En la entrada, un panel estaba lleno de actividades relacionadas con  juegos de rol, tanto “en vivo” como de sentarse en una mesa y tirar unos dados de 20 caras. Así que, si te gusta el rol, este es un punto ineludible en las jornadas a visitar. Y la verdad es que se agradece que hayan jornadas de este tipo, centradas en los juegos de rol.

Pero, también, hay lugar para los juegos de mesa y ahí es donde entramos nosotros. De hecho,  fuimos los únicos patrocinadores que se centran exclusivamente en los juegos de mesa y allí estuvimos organizando torneos y partidas.

21 Mutinies Arrr! Edition

Sin lugar a dudas, Polis: Fight for the Hegemony fue uno de nuestros triunfadores. Se nota que la gente está esperando el juego, que lo conoce y que sabe que va a haber una reedición. Por desgracia, la gente que se sentó a jugar no venía con pareja, por lo que yo tuve que jugar. Llevo más de 30 partidas a mis espaldas y podría jugar con los ojos vendados, tampoco soy de los que le gusta dejarse ganar para crear un buena impresión (¡eso está muy mal!)... Y, sin embargo, en una de las partidas, lo pasé ciertamente mal. Empecé ganando con Atenas y sin grandes problemas ya que enseguida me hice con Sócrates. Mantuve el status quo gracias al comercio y mantener a raya a Esparta. Pero el jugador espartano comprendió la película en la penúltima ronda y comenzó a atacar y atacar. Su prestigio empezó a subir gracias a las maniobras militares y la cosa se puso fea... Pero concedió porque debía marcharse. ¡No sé cómo hubiese terminado pero fue una muy buena partida!

Polis: Fight for the Hegemony

También aprovechamos para probar otros juegos. Es otro de los puntos fuertes de REQ (y JESTA por extensión). Tened en cuenta que participan prácticamente todas las asociaciones de Valencia y alrededores: Jocs Quart, la propia Rol en Quart, The Roach Room (Sedaví) y el Club Dreadnought (que siempre participa organizando una buena cena para todos los asistentes). Así, si alguien se queda sin jugar, siempre puedes preguntarles porque no es raro que ellos mismos organicen una partida.

El domingo llegó el torneo de 21 Mutinies Arrr! Edition, valedero para nuestro I Campeonato Nacional. Fue raro si observáis las puntuaciones: bajas, en general. Cosas que tiene el amotinarse sin parar contra el sufrido capitán y vender poco en el mercado negro. Eso sí, la partida prácticamente se alargó hasta el final de las jornadas. De hecho, fueron las últimas fotos del famoso  “photocall” de REQ 2014.

Con eso, terminamos REQ 2014. Unas jornadas que realmente merecen la pena si te gusta el rol (y/o los juegos de mesa) y si te da igual el calor. Pero, precisamente, también tienes a una organización calurosa y atenta y eso pesa más.

Torneo de 21 Mutinies / 21 Mutinies Tournament

The 2014 “Rol en Quart” (REQ) Event was celebrated the last weekend in Quart de Poblet (Valencia). Told in that way, it seems that you have to go too far, but not, if you are going to come to another REQ event, you have to know that Quart is only 5 minutes far from Valencia and well connected by underground.

But first of all we have to highlight the only bad thing about REQ: Heat! Unfortunately, it's that. It's July, Valencia and a sports centre. A really bad combination. For example, air didn't get cooler until 10 PM. I think that it's a constant in Spain, there are more suitable places to set up an event for sure, but they are occupied by another events. Because it would be nice if JESTA (another gaming event in November) could be set in this sports centre and REQ in the community center in which JESTA is celebrated. But, you know, it's always about priorities (maybe they have to be revised because here it comes a lot of people).
Although someone had a good idea for the next year: to use portable air conditioning units! I hope that!

Con la gente de Sector 34 / Sector 34 staff

Let's talk about other things... REQ as its name implies it's about role playing games. You can see a board on the entry full of role playing activities, both Live Action Roleplaying and the traditional one: sitting on a chair and throwing D20 dices. So, if you like role playing, this is an unavoidable event in Spain.

But there are room for board games, and there we are! In fact, we were the only sponsor focused in board games. And we were there showing board games and setting tournaments.

No doubt about Polis: Fight for the Hegemony was one of our winners. People is awaiting for the game, they knew about theme and system and they knew that a new edition is coming. Unfortunately, people who played Polis come alone, so I had to play with them. I have played more than 30 games and I could play blindfolded, and I don't want to throw a game to cause a good impression (it's not nice!)... However, in one game I was about to lose. I started really well with Athens and without a big problem since I hired Socrates in the first round, and I only have to maintain the status quo, keeping Sparta at bay. But the Spartan player understood my strategy in the round 5a and he started to attack again and again. He won a lot of prestige thanks to his military manoeuvres and things were bad... But he granted me the victory because he had to go. I don't know how the game could have ended but it was a nice game!

We took advantage to check another games. It's another REQ (and JESTA) strong point. Keep in mind that every gaming association in Valencia and surroundings take part: “Jocs Quart”, “Rol en Quart”, “The Roach Room” (Sedaví) and “Club Dreadnought” (which always take part cooking a good dinner for all the presents). So if someone has ended his game and he is looking for another one, he can always ask to the organization because they could set up a game.

On Sunday, we did the 21 Mutinies Arrr! Edition tournament, valid for our I National Championship. It was strange if you see the scoring: in general, it was a low score. Things due to non-stop mutinies and not to sell in the Black Market action. But the game longs till the end of the same event. In fact we shot the last photos in the famous REQ photocall!

And 2014 REQ finished with that. An event that is worth the effort if you like role playing games (and/or board games) and if heat isn't your problem. But, by the way, here you have a warm and courteous association at every moment and that's the important thing!
